The NWS - Dispatch Center Partnership
This course is designed to provide dispatchers and other law enforcement personnel with an overview of the services provided by the National Weather Service (NWS). This is a complete multimedia presentation that highlights how the NWS and law enforcement—specifically dispatchers—can communicate more effectively to better serve the public. In recent years, it has become more apparent that the effectiveness of this communication is critical during extreme weather or all hazards events. Dispatch is often the only source with which the NWS has routine contact during the course of such events. Therefore, it is vital that the NWS give a comprehensive look at the services which can be provided. Additionally, it is important for dispatchers to understand how information relayed to the NWS could have a large impact on community awareness.
Topics will include:
· NWS Forecast Services
· Spot Weather Forecasts Including All Hazards
· Communications Between the NWS and Dispatch
· Watch, Warning, Advisory Messages from the NWS
· All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio
· Web Tour
